Update 23rd July 2020: Reopening this Weekend – bookings now open!
We are very much looking forward to opening this Saturday 25th July, and in anticipation, our bookings are now open online!
We will be taking bookings by phone and setting members up with online booking (who don’t already use the service) from this Saturday: 01749 346644.
Don’t forget that you will need to book in for gym sessions too. We can only have 12 people in each session to ensure social distancing, so please do not arrive without booking first – if there is not a space for you, you will be turned away. Sessions are on each hour, for 55 minutes, and if you can’t book online, phonelines will be open from 7am on Saturday (please bear with us as they may be busy).
Class bookings are also live online now and can be booked by phone from Saturday. If you want to attend a class please ensure you book before attending – again, spaces are limited for social distancing. Similarly, if you are unable to attend a class for any reason, please let us know asap – there will likely be another member who would love to take your place: 01749 346644.

Update 16th July 2020: Reopening of Shepton Mallet Leisure Centre
After last week’s announcement by Central Government to allow gyms and leisure facilities to reopen after the COVID-19 pandemic on 25th July, we wanted to let you know that we are busy planning our return to business, including putting all of the necessary safety precautions in place to keep our members, customers and staff safe.
Opening hours: We will reopen on Saturday 25th Opening times will be 7am-10pm Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm Saturday and Sunday. This slightly shortened opening time will allow for extra cleaning before and after operating hours.
Additional cleaning: Cleaning of equipment and high contact areas will be continuous. We will have cleaning stations available in each exercise area, so that customers can also clean equipment before and after use if they wish.
Hand hygiene: Hand sanitiser will be available at each exercise area and at reception. All visitors will be asked to use this on entry and exit of the building.
Directions: We will be operating a one way system through the Centre, to allow for social distancing – please follow the directions of staff and signage, and adhere to the floor markings where necessary.
Staff Training: Prior to opening, staff will have completed ‘Reactivate’ – a COVID-19 awareness training programme for the leisure industry, provided by CIMSPA.
Gym: Time in the gym will be limited to 55 minute sessions, and these must be booked in advance. Sessions will be bookable online or by phone – please keep an eye on your emails and social media and we will let you know when bookings are live. This will enable us to limit the number of people in the gym at any one time, ensuring social distancing guidelines can be adhered to and there is adequate time for cleaning between machine use and gym sessions. Consecutive gym sessions will not be allowed on reopening, although this may be reviewed depending on demand. Constant cleaning of machinery will be taking place throughout the day.
Exercise Classes: We will be operating a slightly altered timetable and the number of spaces in each class will be limited (or the class will be moved to a larger area) in order to ensure social distancing. Classes must be booked in advance (online or by phone – we will advise when bookings are live). Please keep an eye on our website (sheptonmalletleisure.uk) and social media for the updated class timetable. Any equipment and mats required for classes will be cleaned before and after use. Wherever possible, customers are asked to bring their own exercise mats and equipment. Any classes with less than 5 attendees booked will be cancelled, for which anyone booked will be given a minimum of 2 hours notice.
Astro Pitch: This will be available only to organised sports clubs with their own guidance in place and under the supervision of a professional, or for family groups (bubbles) to ‘pay and play’. Contact sports are not currently allowed under government guidelines. If you would like to book your space or reinstate a long term booking, please contact us: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Racquet Sports: Due to contact sports restrictions, badminton will be available for singles games and family groups only. Squash is available for individual practice and family groups only.
Changing Rooms: Due to social distancing requirements, changing and shower facilities will be closed.
Lockers: To avoid creating a high contact area, lockers will not be in use. Please bring your belongings in a small bag and keep them with you at all times.
Toilets: Toilets in the reception area will be open, with only one person allowed in the changing room at any one time. Please do not use the area for changing at this time. No other toilets will be accessible.
What you can do to help us to keep everyone safe:
Please pre-book all activities, including gym sessions, in advance
Please bring your own water bottle – there are no drinking water facilities available currently
Please report to reception on arrival at the Centre to book in for all activities
Please do not arrive any more than 5 minutes before your pre-booked activity
Please adhere to the social distancing measures in place and follow the directions of staff and instructors
Please take notice of directional arrows and floor spacing markers to help with the flow of people in the building, whilst enabling social distancing
If you are required to pay for your activity, please use contactless payment where possible
Please bring your Membership card (if you have one) in order to reduce time and contact at reception
Please be considerate of other people in the Centre, and remember that others may be feeling more anxious than you do and should be allowed time and space to feel safe
Please be patient and co-operate with our reception staff and instructors – this is all new to us too!
Reinstating Membership Payments
We will be reinstating all membership payments on 1st August, meaning that the first week of opening will be free to all monthly paying members who have not cancelled their payments. If you have cancelled your Direct Debit with your bank, we will be unable to reinstate your membership immediately, and you will need to contact us by phone after on or after 25th July to do this.
We are really keen to open up our facilities again, and we know that many of you are anxious to get back to your fitness programmes. Update 26th March 2020: DIRECT DEBITS
We would encourage all monthly paying Members not to cancel direct debit payments at your bank. All payments are suspended, and will not be taken again until such a time that we are able to reopen and you are able to return to the Centre and continue your membership. Any Members that have cancelled at the bank will need to be processed as new members on reopening, and this may take some time to be administered. Many thanks.
Update 21st March 2020: MEMBERSHIPS SUSPENDED
We are suspending all membership payments until further notice, and will inform Members of any developments in the coming days and weeks. Thank you for your patience at this difficult time.
Update 20th March 2020: LEISURE CENTRE CLOSED
For those who are closely following the news, you will be aware that the Government has now made clear that Leisure Centres must close in order to protect the public during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Therefore it is with great sadness that we will close immediately until further notice.
We would like to thank all of our customers, supporters and friends for their support and kindness over the past few days as we tried to carry on with what we do best.
We are sure you will understand that it will take a little while for us to digest this latest development and to plan what happens next, so we would be grateful if you would bear with us for a short while.
As and when we have any further news we will post again on our website and on Facebook.
In the meantime we will miss you all, and wish you all the best at this difficult time.
